World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading
Upgrades to items allow players to boost the gear score of an item to 700, and then add an additional perk. Items can be upgraded by having them in inventory, and then taking them to the kiln.
Certain items are worth upgrading due to their distinctive stats. (For example, a perfectly broken point armor that is rolled can be used in melee PvP). Other items such as weapons don't change much after an upgrade and aren't worth it.
Weapons
Upgrades to weapons can improve their numerical stats, like attack damage, crit chance, and PvE/PvP damage. They also have a flat bonus which increases their damage per second. Many weapons also come with a fixed bonus that is activated when three or more identical weapons are placed in a unit. This bonus may exceed the damage that an upgrade alone can cause.
The cost of upgrading a weapon is contingent on its rarity as well as its current level. For instance, an upgrade to a +2 weapon requires two standard Smithing Stones while a+3 requires four. The number of stones needed to upgrade a weapon will increase until it needs an upgrade to a higher level of Smithing Stones. At that point, it will reset back to one.
The upgrade of weapons can also change their base stats. While this is usually an excellent thing however, it could have negative consequences too. Upgrades can make items inaccessible, unless you're extremely lucky.
Armor items can be upgraded to boost their performance. For example, if you upgrade chests or helms it will boost its base defense while a belt and gloves will enhance their required strength and dexterity. Armor also has the option of rerolling its Enhanced Defense%, meaning that it could change its roll to a lower value.

Armor
A few upgrades to your armor can make the world of difference in your ability to survive. Certain sets offer massive boosts to poison or curse, fire, and magic resistance, which can make it easier to navigate through tough terrain. In general, the greater defense your character is, the more value you can get out of each point of health you have and it's crucial to improve your armor as much as possible.
To improve your armor, head to any of the Great Fairy Fountains in the game. There are four fountains in all each of which requires you to complete a special side-quest involving the Stable Trotters musical troupe. Once you've completed the main quest and the corresponding fountains, you can talk to any Great Fairy in order to unlock the armor upgrade menu.
Each piece of armor can be upgraded up to three levels, and the amount of materials and Rupees required to complete each level will differ. It is possible to use anything from three Red Chuchu jelly and 10 Rupees to upgrade the initial armor piece, and between five Rubies or 10 Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns to upgrade each subsequent one. For example the Champion Leathers could be upgraded to +5 defense, which allows you to keep up with a decent-sized group of enemies in most cold conditions, and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded up to +20 defense, giving you enough protection to survive a full on raid with a few friends.
It isn't possible to upgrade armor in the same way as weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior it is best to focus on upgrading your armor to increase physical power or spell power. It's also a good idea to save your armor upgrades to use for armor you'll still be wearing at the end of the game, such as the Ring of Lightning and Spectral Shield or the helmet you wear for the final boss fight, the Monter Parts Merchant's mask.
By giving the jeweler 10 Twinkling Titanite in Gerudo Town in Gerudo Town, you can unlock some perks on your armor. Generally, you'll want to save these upgrades for the weapon you'll use to beat the game, like the Longsword, Battleaxe or Warhammer, but it can be useful to have a few upgrades of the chest armor and helmets that permit you to sneak past certain monsters.
Potions
Potions are substances in bottles that, when consumed give the user an effect on their status for a short period of time. There are five types of potions, each having a specific set of effects and durations. Some potions may be upgraded, increasing their effectiveness. You can also enhance the effects of certain potions by adding redstone dust and glowstone dust.
Potion upgrades cost a specific amount of XP, which can be earned by making them on a table or the Alchemist's chest. The price of upgrades changes depending on what type of potion you'd like to upgrade, and also on the item's Mark Level as well as its rarity.
To upgrade a potions you need to right-click it in your inventory. Then, select "Upgrade" from the menu. This will open an GUI which allows you to choose the potion that you want to upgrade and the amount of experience they will offer when upgraded. Upgrading potions can be done in batches of up to five at a single time, and the XP they earn will be added to your current XP level.
When a poton is upgraded, it will not degrade unless you make use of it again or break the bottle within which it is stored. You can also change the name of the potion by clicking it in your inventory.
Version 1.7.2 brought a few changes to the mechanism of potions. For example the splash potions now have a duration of 0.08 seconds (this is not the equivalent of 22.5 seconds displayed on the item hover display). The potion table can now be constructed using four Wood Planks and two Glass. This allows it to be used by players in Survival and Bedrock. Bedrock Edition potions aren't compatible with cauldrons, as is the case with Java Edition. This is the same for the use of a potion in the cauldron that is filled. This will deplete the potion, and refill the bottle.
Lastly, there are now lingering potions, which are made with splash and dragon breath potions. Redstone can also be added to potions that are lingering to increase their effect. The potion table has been rearranged to look more like the Java Edition. New potions are also added, for instance, the potion of leaping and decomposition.
Trinkets
A trinket can be an ornamental item that is small, cheap or piece jewelry. It could be a reference to an object or decoration that serves a function but isn't particularly significant like a tiny thimble. In certain cultures, a trinket can be used to show affection or friendship between family members.
Trinkets can be upgraded by players in addition to weapons or armor, as well as potions. Upgrades can be purchased by paying the appropriate currency to an upgrade vendor. Trinkets unlike other items that can be upgraded, can be swapped at will without losing stats.
The upgrade vendors are found in major cities and in the capital of each zone, as well as in some instances in dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets are purchased with gold, tokens or fragments of a rare trinket.
Upgrades are a cost-effective alternative to buying a brand new trinket. A player can upgrade their trinket for as little as 12 tokens. The new trinket will feature the same base ilvl as the older one, and have an additional upgrade bonus of 1.
Once the old Trinkets are no longer useful they can be upgraded. This allows players to increase both their power and value over time. They can be traded between players, making them an alternative to gold.
In general players should upgrade their highest priority items first. This usually means the best-in-slot items for their class, followed by their secondary items and finally, other gear items that they won't replace soon (for instance rings or cloaks). When deciding which items to upgrade players should take into account their class's preferred statistics. For example If Haste and Crit are the two most important stats for tanks, they should be focusing on upgrading their helm, chest, shoulders, and belt.
Once they have become useless, trinkets can be upgraded to a greater level. The new trinket comes with an additional bonus of 1. Re-upgrading can cause damage to the trinket unless it is salvaged with the help of a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or a salvage tool. Upgrades to trinkets are more expensive than other upgrades but still cheaper than buying a new one.
